30 Seventh Grade Students from Cambridge Jr./Sr. High School toured the Illinois State Capitol, including a visit to the Illinois House Floor with Rep. Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) on Feb. 24, 2017.

WOODHULL… State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) hosted Woodhull resident and local legislation inspiratory, Jack Bumann, as an Honorary Page in the Illinois House on Wednesday.

Jack was the impetus behind the legislative effort in 2016 to allow middle and high-school students an excused absence in order to play Taps at military funerals in Illinois.

“I am honored to host this exceptional young man as an Honorary Page in the Illinois House,” said Rep. Swanson.  “I have come to know Jack and he has accomplished so much for our Veterans already that I am so inspired to see what the future holds for him.”

Jack has played Taps at several dozen funerals for veterans throughout Illinois.  Rep. Swanson recently presented Jack with a replica Civil War bugle after Jack participated in a Civil War veteran remembrance in Andover, IL.  “We need to encourage young people like Jack to continue to honor our Veterans,” said Rep. Swanson.

Jack plans to attend Illinois Central College in the Fall and will study business and play on the golf team.

WOODHULL… State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) is inviting constituents to contact his District Office for state services and problems.

“Many times, when it comes to problems with state agencies, residents don’t know where to turn for help,” said Swanson. “I want to be sure 74th District residents know I am here to serve them and assist with state agencies, issues coming before the legislature and with an array of state services.”

In January, Rep. Swanson opened the new 74th District Constituent Services Office at 536 Oxford Avenue, Suite D in Woodhull, which is on the East side of the Woodhull Travel Plaza at Interstate 74 and Route 17. Office hours are Monday-Friday from 9:00am-4:00pm.

The office’s e-mail address is swanson@ilhousegop.org and Rep. Swanson’s legislative website can be found at www.repswanson.com. The website also includes a map of the district, committee assignments, contact form, and information on legislative initiatives supported by Rep. Swanson.

Rep. Swanson’s legislative aide started in January as well. Born in Cambridge and now a Geneseo resident,
WOODHULL… State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) issued the following statement following Governor Rauner’s Budget Address today:

“I was grateful to see the emphasis on Kewanee’s Correctional Life Skills Re-Entry Center during the Governor’s Budget Address,” said Swanson. “This program will help offenders leave custody, find a new job, and build a new life. I also agree with fully funding transportation funding to schools. This is long overdue. Our schools are scrambling to transport students at the expense of cutting curriculum and other programs.”

Swanson continued, “the speech was also great news for Illinois Veterans. The Governor proposed a new Veterans Home in Chicago, which will help with overcrowding at Downstate facilities at Quincy and LaSalle-Peru. This will provide opportunities for Veterans as well as better care. However, all of this is only possible with a growing economy. It was great to see the emphasis on growing our tax base and acknowledging we cannot tax our way to prosperity, we must grow our way to prosperity.”

WOODHULL… State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) announced he has received word that he will also be appointed to the House Agriculture & Conservation Committee in addition to the five committees announced earlier in the week.

“I was very happy to have received the call from Leader Durkin to let me know I had been chosen to help represent our caucus on the Agriculture & Conservation Committee.  As a fifth-generation family farmer, and representing an area of the state known as the Hog Capitol of the World (Kewanee) and containing some of the very best farmland in Illinois, I look forward to applying those skills and knowledge on this important committee,” said Swanson.  “My father, brother and I still operate our family farm near Andover where we harvest corn, beans, oats, wheat and hay crops as well as operate a cow/calf operation, cattle feedlot and raise pigs.”

“There are many difficult issues confronting our agricultural economy in Illinois.  Having legislators with first-hand knowledge on family farming will be important as we move forward as a State.  I look forward to that work and applying my common-sense and agricultural knowledge gleaned over generations,” continued Swanson.
